Illustrate an Idiom

A Blessing in Disguise

Created a playful visual interpretation of the idiom “A blessing in disguise” using Adobe Illustrator. I illustrated a man wearing a trench coat with angel wings, using the contrast between the disguise and the wings to represent the meaning of the phrase.

I explored different compositions and typography treatments before developing the final concept. I experimented with changing the word “Blessing” into a more cursive font while using a bolder typeface for the rest of the phrase. This contrast helped emphasize the word “Blessing” and created more visual interest within the typography. I also incorporated the idiom into the illustration by wrapping the text around the shape of the wings, allowing the typography to become part of the artwork rather than simply sitting beside it.

What I Learned

This project allowed me to experiment with visual storytelling, typography, and composition while finding a creative way to communicate an idiom through illustration. I learned how font choices, weight, and contrast can create emphasis and help guide the viewer’s attention. I also learned that integrating typography directly into an illustration can make the overall design feel more connected and intentional.
