Firework Reflection
Project type
Photoshop
Created an experimental digital composition from a firework photograph that originally had an underwhelming appearance. Inspired by the photography of Jim Huibregtse, particularly his use of dark backgrounds and bright red and orange tones, I wanted to transform the photograph into something more dramatic and visually engaging.
I darkened the original image and experimented with repeating and flipping the photograph to create a mirrored composition. By reflecting the fireworks onto themselves, I was able to create a symmetrical effect that made the original photograph feel more dynamic. The dark background helped emphasize the bright red and orange colors of the fireworks and created stronger contrast throughout the image.
What I Learned
This project taught me how an image that does not initially feel successful can be transformed through experimentation and editing. I learned how repetition, reflection, contrast, and color can completely change the mood and visual impact of a photograph. It also encouraged me to look at photography beyond simply capturing an image and consider how Photoshop can be used to create a new visual experience from an existing photograph.
